Eminent Odia Singer Sourin Bhatt who has a simultaneous Bollywood playback singing career revealed, in an interview, some serious issues Music Industry is currently facing.

“The industry is going through a bad disease of remaking old songs. It’s not that the new versions are not better. But, even though the songs are not relating to the film or the story, still the old versions are just remade or introduced probably only to ‘fill the generation gap’,” Bhatt said.

“Hindustani music has a bunch of instruments, including the most prominent ones like sitar, drone,  sarod, sarangi, shehnai, tabla, and tambura. Evergreen hits used to have their own shine, as the 60’s & 70’s music makers like Kishor Da, Pancham Da had experimented a lot with it,” he added.

Talking about remakes, Bhatt said, “Whenever somebody mentions the tune of the old song, the lyrics automatically start playing in your head and make you feel nostalgic. But now, the remade versions of those songs are like ‘Old Wine In New Bottle‘. Music makers are remaking those hits by simply adding some raps and rock beats in them. That’s where the songs lose their essence. So, it is high time for the music industry to start taking their job seriously and make proper use of the instruments that represent us worldwide.”

Further, the prominent singer urged all the parents to have their children listen to the original songs rather than their remix versions. He is confident, that way the golden melodies will be back again.

Feeling blessed for having a connection with Odisha, Bhatt narrated his journey in the Odia industry.

“I have completed almost a decade with Ollywood Cinema and that thought never came to my mind that I belonged to its neighboring state i.e, Kolkata. People of Odisha have always welcomed me with open arms and I feel like they are my second family as I used to spent half of my year here,” he said.

Bhatt also revealed why he keeps visiting Odisha again and again.
